Summary:
Technological
advances have made our daily lives easier with the tools offered by technology
to manage and automate most of our daily routines related to work or home.
Although there is
a wide range of services covering needs such as making sure all windows are
closed, informing about intruders in the garden, turning lights on and off
etc., there is no comprehensive offer that is affordable and tailored to the
needs of each individual. This is the gap that the SmartHome4SENIORS project
aims to fill. The project will aim to support and guide older people over 55
with basic ICT skills into the world of connected home solutions while, at the
same time, young adults, seniors and volunteers will be engaged to teach their
older colleagues, friends and relatives.
Main objectives:
-
To provide seniors with a
practical approach to making their lives easier, simplifying their daily
routines, improving their safety, offering hands-free control, but also
developing a sense of ownership and value in their creations and promoting
civic engagement and collaboration;
-
Develop an effective
educational offering that integrates the principles of engineering,
electronics, DIY creations, digital skills and life skills, tailored to the
needs of older people;
-
Incorporate gamification and
experiential concepts into the teaching process for older people, keeping them
engaged and motivated;
-
Create evidence-based policy
and research recommendations for the use of hands-on learning with older
people;
-
Strengthen the capacity of
educational institutions and adult learning centres to provide high quality and
inclusive digital education for all ages;
-
To create a community of
practice for our older people and their careers, as well as young
adults/volunteers, through a virtual academy, which encourages collaboration,
exchange of good practice and ensures continuity and development of the project
outcomes.
